FL1 V6 engine, auto box and IRD

Bought this in a while ago as a replacement for a customers unit, who had since failed to turn up on numerous occasions and no reply to voicemails/texts etc. Bought this from a breakers and ran it around before removal, all appears good, I can't however guarantee against headgaskets etc though I...

    V6 Auot FWD conversion.

Well it's been back on the road for 3 weeks, no problems to report (apart from a clanking front ARB link, ****ty FAI parts that are only a few months old). All went together fine and dandy. I did make a bit more work for myself as I put in MG ZS180 manifolds, which required changing the sump...

    V6 buying?

If you find one that has had history of having the head gaskets done, bonus. Also check it's history for having any of the 4WD system replaced, another bonus if it's been right. I do KV6's day in, day out, both on FL's and the MG-Rovers. When the headgaskets go it's is 90% of the time due to...

V6 Missfire on tickover and running hot

Has it started misfiring since you did the thermostat? If so, did you remove/disturb the plug-leads/coil packs for the front bank when you did the thermostat housing? Just wondering if you did and if you have put the leads back in the correct order? The coil pack when looking at them are 3-1-5...

    V6 Auot FWD conversion.

Thought I'd better update this! Been busy with work but the Xmas wind-down is starting so I might have it finished next week! Picked up my custom driveshafts this morning. Basically the N/S/F driveshaft is the same length as before, but has had the inner spline for the inner joint welded in...

    non starting freelander

Sounds like cam sensor to me. When they fail they don't work when they are warm, when they cool back down they work again. Get it warm, turn the engine off. If it doesn't restart, bung the cam sensor in the fridge for a bit and try it again. If it starts put a new sensor on it.

Drinking more than George Best !!!

Sounds like headgaskets, don't bother spending money on an oil cooler as they just don't go wrong.

    V6 auto to manual ??

Just realised I was talking **** with that comment as the manual is a Getrag box and the auto is a Jatco, which is why I didn't mention it as an option in the first place.

    V6 auto to manual ??

In theory you could by swapping the bell-housing of the gearbox casing actually, as the starter motor locations are in totally different places and the bolt-pattern is off, but the main casing is the same AFAIK so should swap over. Taking apart Jatco's is never fun though!

    Freelander 1 exterior plastics colour...

I use a product called Autosmart Trim Ultra to treat the faded plastics about 6 months ago. I applied it with an Autoglym hand pad and it looked awesome after two applications and it doesn't get washed of by rain or a pressure washer. excellent stuff and made my grey plastics look like new, but...
