    I think the exhaust seal on the turbo has gone, but I need to be sure of that before I try sourcing another turbo. The engine didnt smoke prior to the rebuild, but it does now, Turbo was off the car for six months , wonder how that would affect the seals, are they likely to dry out and shrink...

    Never seen blue smoke, only ever light grey or black, so it would be light grey to me.

    Start the car, hdc light goes out, tc and abs light stay on, travel down the road, hdc light comes back on. Replaced hdc switch, replaced o/s front abs sensor which had a damaged wire, brake light switch seems ok, getting readings between 10 and 20 000 ohms, [ I think] from all four abs sensors...

    Had the fanbelt snap last december,got trapped behind the cambelt , which jumped some teeth. Removed the head, replaced four smashed cam followers and one bent exhaust valve. Put it all back together , got the engine running nicely, but now it smokes excessively. It doesnt smoke when its started...

    Gasket was blowing between cylinders 2 and 3 pressurising the cooling system. gasket hadnt blown, head was slightly warped there, 0.15mm, 50% above maximum allowance. Bought a new head off ebay, seller had 4 for sale, but only one left when I bought one. Nice to know my problem isnt unique...

    Doing the headgasket on a L series, its a PIA. Need some shortcuts, want to leave the manifolds on when I take the head off,is that ok? any other shortcuts/ tips anyone?

    Blanking off ird coolant pipes.

    A nice easy job , two bolts and two clamps. I just put a new clutch in the freelander and a bottom ball joint[drill out the rivets type] and now it looks like I have to do the head gasket. Its a L series diesel.

    Had an ird pipe burst which emptied the coolant,pipe had gone just below the hose clamp. I cut an inch off it and refitted it. temporary measure,it needed a new one really. So just filled the cooling system with water,seem to struggle getting it bled. Got it circulating but when the system...

    Ird pipes not leaking,but after a 10 mile drive today,parked it up and it promptly blew the bottom hose off. Ill put a thread in the engine section.
