    L series, smokey exhaust

I think the exhaust seal on the turbo has gone, but I need to be sure of that before I try sourcing another turbo. The engine didnt smoke prior to the rebuild, but it does now, Turbo was off the car for six months , wonder how that would affect the seals, are they likely to dry out and shrink...

    ABS fault

Start the car, hdc light goes out, tc and abs light stay on, travel down the road, hdc light comes back on. Replaced hdc switch, replaced o/s front abs sensor which had a damaged wire, brake light switch seems ok, getting readings between 10 and 20 000 ohms, [ I think] from all four abs sensors...

    Blanking off ird coolant pipes.

A nice easy job , two bolts and two clamps. I just put a new clutch in the freelander and a bottom ball joint[drill out the rivets type] and now it looks like I have to do the head gasket. Its a L series diesel.

    L series problem

Had an ird pipe burst which emptied the coolant, pipe had gone just below the hose clamp. I cut an inch off it and refitted it. temporary measure,it needed a new one really. So just filled the cooling system with water, seem to struggle getting it bled. Got it circulating but when the system...

    Blanking off ird coolant pipes.

Ird coolant pipes temporarily sealed off using brake hose clamps, coolant drained, [water only] Antifreeze mixture and k seal added, ran engine up to temperature. switched off, removed clamps, started engine. No leaks yet, will see how it goes.

    Blanking off ird coolant pipes.

Did think about kseal, Its the long journey that concerns me, normal every day use wont be a problem, dont go far. Why it wasnt made with a larger oil capacity is strange anyway, a couple of litres of oil in what is basically a big diff would have probably been enough on its own without having...

    Blanking off ird coolant pipes.

Top metal pipe that comes out of the ird has started leaking just before the end of the rubber pipe. I am going to blank the rubber pipe ends or join them to create a loop , ending up with a non cooled ird unit. Quite a common practice apparently. I have a 150 mile journey to make next week...
