Alas I know nothing about the lanes round this way. Hells bells I've only just got my disco.
Yes I would love to go to the next big meet but I've got to sort it all out logistics wise. (And pennywise) as I said to vilguy I'm thinking I may have bitten off more than I can chew atm house refurb. Landy sort out, plus new baby.

The folks I have met off of here have been brilliant so ill be sticking about (if that's ok) ill offer my help as and where I can but until things are more settled here I couldn't even sign up for a night out on the pop! Lol

Well if you want to come to lz next year we accommodate babies and wives/girlfriends/dogs/all inclusive!! Would be awesome to meet you and if you don't fancy camping we can help with local hotels :)

As said, if anyone wants to organise a Southern or Northern meet there's absolutely nothing to stop them doing so. One of the main reasons it's held where it is is that it's central, but also because the people who do a lot of the arranging live within 50 miles or so of it so know the lanes, local 'helpers' and have built up connections over the couple of years it's been held. It's a fantastic venue for what and how we do things.

I helped organise the Bakewell Bash and believe me it's not easy ... creating a route that can suit any vehicle, or the mud-pluggers ain't easy!

Don't just moan about it, do something about it and see what it takes in your area with your connections and local knowledge ... PS .. it's all voluntary with little to no reward other than "thanks" or getting moaned at off for not having it close enough to someone else.

As it happens .. put me down as a Laning leader again, whoever organises it this year, scratchy, extreme, easy, whatever ... ;)

Folks , I'm sorry that I can't confirm the date just yet ......The campsite have to confirm with the main Hall that the weekend we have chosen isn't affected by a big event they hold every year ( but they haven't booked for 2016 yet ). Really hope to get a confirmed date out there next week .

I'm with all the others about regional events. ..If you organise it -I'll come pretty much anywhere within a four hour drive....I've been to bristol & West and the chippie run and the lakes trip so know how far people have to travel to get to LZ 16 but I'd like to think that people felt that the travel was worth it !

I might think about the idea of a Suvvvern meet. But it would be very difficult, as I live about ten miles from Lands end, and as you say, central is the key to success.:) But I suppose central from our point of view would be somewhere like Oxford or Swindon, pretty good mway access from the big population centres in the Sarf. and only 200 mile trip for the geographically challenged. :( It would really need someone upcountry to pick up the torch as well!

I do know a bit about what a grim task organising events is, I am on a few committees to do with shows, and I have been involved with sports and other event organising before.

If I was to try it, I think my approach would be to keep it small and simple, at least for starters. Probably wouldn't bother with laning etc., most can get plenty of that locally to them if they want, and traffic is bad in the Sarf in Summer.

Just a two day social meet, Friday and Saturday camping, bar and disco. Hopefully an interesting car park display. If it worked, maybe add more features later.

I think it worked well last time, with an increase in partakers this time of say 20% (i dont think thats unrealistic) then it only going to get better. That coupled with the lessons learnt from lz11.

We will be in attendence anyway :)

I may try attending this once confirmed.
Is it to go green laning or just a forum meetup for food etc?
there will be green laning but its mainly having a great w/end meeting everybody, there will be a bbq, beer tent and lots of fun, watch this thread for more info

I drive past Stanford hall everyday and wanted to come to the last meet, I only wanted to turn up for a day but no one got back to me with an answer :(

Due to the shocking standard of moderation here there was around 12 threads for every aspect of the gathering. The only surprise is that anyone received an answer to anything at all!

Blame will be randomly applied and heads will roll....

:D:D:p

Im going to try and attend the next one if only to annoy everyone :p

But for gods sake stop harping on about it being central. Nothing like.................. Ordanance Survey

We calculate the centre of Great Britain using the gravitational method. In basic terms, the principle calculates the point at which the object would balance horizontally on the head of a theoretical pin – its centre of gravity. The gravitational method has been used as a scientific application by everyone from Captain Cook to NASA.

We take it as the mainland and the 401 associated islands shown at the 1: 625,000 scale of mapping. This works for us at Ordnance Survey as it reflects the full extent of our geographical remit. We made the calculation by linking our 1: 625,000 database with a computer programme based on the gravitational method

Working on the basis above, the centre is a location 7 km north west of Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire, by Whitendale Hanging Stones on Brennard Farm in the Forest of Bowland (SD 64188.3, 56541.43).

Bleedin southerners
