Now then boys and girls,

every so often usually when its rained i find that my hand brake has stuck on, or at least the pads stuck to the drum.

is there anyway to stop this, iv had new drums and shoes and still does it, i cant leave handbrake of as i park on a hill and before anybody suggests it im not oiling them :D

I used to have a Mk1 Lotus Cortina whose clutch friction plate would bond to the flywheel if I left it for 2 weeks in the winter without declutching it.

I had to back off the bell housing and jiggle the gearbox so the first motion shaft moved the friction plate and broke the bonding.

Beat that anyone ?

Sure. I had an very old commer highwayman that sized its clutch. I lived then on a farm with a concrete private access road.. Into first gear, start the camper and rev it up down the road. Then stamp on clutch and brakes together. Huge bang and clutch broke free...

Could be the rear pivot points seizing - that's what it was on mine when I had the same issue

same on mine, fitted new shoes, but oiled the handbrake cable to free it off, but the pivots as u say kept sticking , cleaned and put some grease and was ok

but to be honest don't use the handbrake, just leave it in park

must replace the cables sometime,

Just out of interest how do you lube the hand brake cables on a FL1?
I assume disconnect the hand brake end of the cable and tip something inside?

my wife's freelander used to do that same as said I changed the hand break cables and now is ok she used to have an old fiesta and every year while on holiday the clutch would seize on put it in second gear and start it up and a quick dad on the brakes and it would be free.

Dad was useful then ?
