Hi

I have a problem when I press the remote button to unlock the doors, the central locking sometimes only responds after the 2nd or 3rd press of the button. Same issue when locking the car as well. It does it with both my remotes

I have replaced the batteries on both with new ones and issue is still the same. The buttons for the tailgate & lights works first time every time.

It seems as if the car intermittently does not respond to the unlock/ lock signal from the remote on first try.

Also I have a problem where the drivers window would go down all the way. It would then fail to close for a moment on first try. When it does close, the window then lost it's setting of the one press full close function (as it the battery was disconnected)

Tech at LR says it is some control box in the door between the window button and the motor.

Could this box in the door also be the cause of the remote central locking problem as I understand that this box also handles the door locking and unlocking?

Might be the internal circuit board on the remote with a dirty connection.
Could also be the actuator in the door as been said, had a similar problem with an e36 a few years ago

You must be on about a FL1 not a FL2 though, as the battery replacement on a FL2 isn't just an in and out job since it's a sealed fob

Nope. It's the Freelander 2. There is a way to replace the battery soldering off the old battery and soldering on a new one. Its a Panasonic 3v rechargeable battery. And yes, you need to force open the fob and glue it back to together.

Not ideal but have ordered a replacement empty fob into which I have carried over the inside board.

I still suspect that it is something on the car that is not always responding to the press of the button. This is on both remotes.

The batteries on the remotes must be in good condition as I can stand almost 20 - 30m from the car and it will still pick up the signal.

It's very easy to fry and damage the circuits when messing on with the fobs tho, could have damaged part of the circuit which relates to the unlocking which then causes an intermittent signal loss

Problem existed before the batteries where replaced so I doubt any damage. I am suspecting an intermittent issue with the central locking control unit.

It could be a door module giving the issues you describe.

I don't believe a used part can be used as it stores the VIN in it.

New one will need programming via diagnostics else it won't work
