I just bought a 99 Freelander and I didn't know ahead of time that they had so many issues. The week before I bought it. It got warm not over heating completely once. Now it does it very once in a while after use. I have taken it to two different place and they don't know what the problem is. It has a slow leakof coolant also that I have noticed. I am wondering is this part of the design flaw that has found my freelander? Or could it be something else? An is there somewhere close to Brandon, Suffolk that I can get it worked on for a good price. I am not British and I got here in Sept. so I don't know anywhere to take it.

thermostat possibly-what model and have you photo's of leak

99 freelander xei s-wagon 1795cc
I also had the block checked the other day and it was fine.
I don't have photo's of the leak though.
they checked it multiple times the other day to find it and they couldn't.
but it get low on its own

dont know if if the top hose from rad is the same in the 1.8 as my 2l di, but i had a leak under the clip on the engine end of the hose.
previous owner could have rad sealed it and clogged up the waterworks.

Oh, if i had a pound for every Hippo driver who comes on here and says their K series is loosing coolant. :( I'd be rich. :D

All hoses, fittings and check the carpet under the central console isn't wet as the heater matrix is another favorite to fail.

Also, watch your oil level. It that starts rising then its either the head gasket or one of the liners is starting to move, breaching the block water jacket so that coolant starts to enter the sump. You won't see that happening.

Hopefully its something simple.

Good luck.

Just noticed same problem on our 1.8hse but also noticed that very small drops are getting flicked up off the belt so think ours is either thermostat or water pump leak, gotta read through rave lol see how hard it is for changin gaskets on em. Did have HG done bout 20k ago and no signs that it is that again.
Ours leaves a small watermark on drive just inside driverside wheel.

now where's them diff mount threads...:(

That is where the watermark is on mine also I saw it today because I have not used it for a day and half. I am going to have the thermostat changed this week hopefully they can find the leak then.

oh, I forgot I had the block checked this week as well as the mot done three weeks ago while this problem has been going on. It passed the mot and they changed the oil and didn't notice any abnormals with that. I have been trying to cover all of my bases.

I am sure that some peeps have had problems with the expansion tank filler cap leaking and very fine cracks around the filler neck

I don't know if my orginal post went through or not but here goes again. I just had the block checked and no problems. I had the mot done three weeks ago and it passed. I found the watermark today behind the driver sides front tire. I don't know where the leak is but I will find it. I am also going to get the thermostat changed this week also.

There is an independant Land Rover guy on the Methwold road from Brandon, just before you reach Methwold village on the right opposite the veg factory, never used them but they have been there a number of years. Cannot remember what it is called.
