Quick question. Both my cigar lighters have packed in, I've checked the fuses etc. Is there an easy way to get at the connectors or do I have to take the centre console out as described in the Haynes bible?

the rear lighter is actualy a power socket

Facelift models don't have the rear lighter / power-socket - they have a blank panel that is easy to pop out after removing the centre arm-rest inner box (4 screws)

All the wiring for the socket is there waiting.

My Garmin plug fits in the dash lighter / socket without getting in the way - but mine is an auto.

Its plugging in other things at the same time that is a bind if you have only one power source.

It's also very easy to fit a socket right up the back behind the rear seats for a fridge too - all the connections and cables are behind the LH side panel.

hi singvogel i new the facelift did not have one as I have just had to buy the pannel so I could have the power socket cost £52 odd i could not see the wires and the pannel just pops out if you just put 2 small flat screw drivers in the little holes at the bottom I am also going to put a power outlet in the boot I have been told the wire is there on the left hand side i need the power outlets being a radio ham with other gear

CQ-CQ teddywood -

Strange that you can't find the wires - they are definitely there on my late 2004 facelift model. I was very happy that I didn't have to run cable from the battery or fuse-box.

If you just pop out the panel as you describe and look in the hole it'll be pretty dark and awkward, so you possibly wont see the cable and its clear or white plug. If you take out the cubby-box inner you should see the cable tied up with tape and tucked out of the way to avoid it fouling the hand-brake cables.

The rear socket is easy to install as you can pick up a power feed from behind the side panel in the rear load area.

found the wire as you say singvogel all done ther but I could not find it behind the pannel as you and they said and I looked behind both mind you it was that wet stuff coming down again and I was rushing

Sorry teddy - perhaps I was unclear - I was rushing a bit earlier on too.

There is no cable behind the rear panel - just a junction box where you can pick up a live wire. Its ignition controlled so check for it with a voltmeter with the ignition on.

It's on the left side i.e. not the driver's side.

I got a neat little socket with a cover, and fitted it up in the corner near the rear seat release handle, so the plug is protected a bit.
