Brakes behaving funny

Hi guys
Bit odd this, don't think I have ever had a similar problem.
If I pump my pedal a couple of times it goes hard as most do but the brakes hardly work after this. I'm a little concerned as I do spend a little time in slow moving traffic, stop start stuff where the brakes are used a lot.

Is this normal?

If not what is the likely suspect for the cause of the problem?

is this the same as when you turn the engine off, the pedal gives you a couple of presses before going hard, if so, sounds like a servo or vacuum problem

I take it you have a td4 if so look at the small vacuum rubber pipe that goes over the gear box as this is where they rub and you will find a small hole in the underneath of the pipe just replace it 4 mm I am sure it was

Yeah it's a td4 51 plate

And yeah same as when the engine is not running only invisible running

Will check that pipe out fingers crossed that's all it is. My cousin and I did a clutch on it a couple of months back so everything got moved around could be un clipped etc etc

Glad this topic has come up. I have the same issue and was about to bleed my brakes as I thought there was air. I will check these vacuum lines out!
