Under my disco with a rain mac!
Hi All, can anybody tell me if i can install a different central locking ecu and fob to the one i have already? My current one is a AMR2106 model that i have tried to locate another with no success.
I have seen many AMR6429 listed on flea bay, they are both for a 300tdi Disco 1. I have a 1997 model but beleive it is imported.
Has anybody managed to change one of these before?
Regards Gary:confused:

AMR2106 is a single button 418Mhz alarm system ecu and AMR6429 is a two button 433Mhz alarm system ecu that is fitted to UK spec 1997 discos as standard.
As the AMR6429 ecu is used in conjunction with a passive immobiliser the two systems are not inter-changeable also the connectivity for the central locking is different in the two systems.

Both ecu's have their own problems, if you have the single button system have a look at the antenna plug connection at the side some times that can be iffy but it seem strange you have that system on a 1997 disco.
for the key operation you will have to look at the master actuator in the drivers door to see if there's any movement as it has a built in switch.

Hi Discool, yeh will check that, thanks. Yes i have the single button that i have changed the batteries and also changed the actuator in the drivers door and made sure that it is connecting properly to the micro switch, but still no luck.
This is why i thought it must be the ecu as the key should still send the current that unlocks the rest of the doors i think?
I don't mind if i can't get the remote working, but i do want to get the c/l working off the key.
As to the older ecu, i thought that myself as most of them are on older 200tdi.

Well the plot thickens on the central locking then. Sounds like my disco could be made up of odd parts left on the shelf!
That will make it more interesting to try and sort issue's out:D

With the single button system there also a stand alone relay either AMR1088 brown or YWB10027L yellow or both, the function of these relays i don't know.
Also do you have a VA VIN number? as VA is 1997 as mine is.

The service book is stamped Rover Deutschland Gmbh, looks to be imported by Europa auto movements in Kent. And the Vin plate is SALLJGMF8TA513423 Registered 23/06/1997.
Can't see the join in the middle though!

GMF8 Tdi 5 speed LHD
TA 1996 model year

So still strange that it doesn't have a 433Mhz two button alarm system (with a green alarm ecu behind the glove box on uk spec disco).
Germany is on the 433 frequency also and the two buttons stuff started with VIN TA501920 a little before your TA 513***

Well i don't quite know wot it has been put together with and why! But would just like to get a system that works on it. Will check the relays you mentioned this weekend and recheck power supply from fuse box.
Thanks for tips..:)

Did the fob work when you got it?

One button fobs are usually 418mhz, only the last of them were 433mhz. If it didn't work it is possible that a previous owner bought the wrong fob as a replacement.

Hi Alexdon, No the remotes didn't work when i got the car, did put new batteries in both to try. Don't know how you tell what mhz they are from looking inside etc.
The remotes have MPT 1340 stamped on the outer case and a stamp FMA15/97 on the circuit board. They also have S+M, R2528, HJ1 stamped on a part inside also.
I don't know if they work or not, the light comes on when you press them and i tried the reset listed in the owners manual to no joy.
But when you use the key i still have no central locking so presume it is the receiver thats at fault!
