Just a quick thread to say after putting up with my will it wont it start, starter motor . My missis got me a starter motor repair kit of flea bay for £7.50p for my birthday present on Friday ( she shaw can spoil me ) so popped off the starter on Saturday put the new contacts in it refitted and all working 1st . Well worth the fix and saving on a new starter motor 😄

Bet the hardest bit was getting the motor off-that nut is something special-well done on the fix

What took me 5 minutes to work out is that the top nut was a 15mm nut unlike the two 13mm bolts on the bottom. But other than that came out easy .

Must be love:lvkiss-106:

No she just was getting hacked off having to use her mini for picking up the horse feed and taking it down the dirt track to the stables . I was happy with the click click click until it started .plus it saved me having to pay the £7.50p on the parts. :D

Any tips for the top nut? I got under last night to check the job out as mine has completely gone, was feeling around blind and couldn't even find the bastard!

I did the top nut 15mm from above . Take off engine cover and then shine a touch down inbetween inlets and you can just see it . I used a 1/2 inch ratchet with a extention bar and short 15mm socket . Cracked it off then used my fingers to undo the rest of way . It is tight! I did it back up from under having seen were the nut is . But as it was 1st time I had done this job having eyes on the nut did help from above

One more thing you say your starter is completely gone . When you get it off might be worth opening it up and looking at the solenoids connections . If your getting a click but nothing else these wear out and no longer make contact . It's just a 5 minute job to do

Thanks mate. Yeh got a rebuild kit here ready to fit once I can get it off.

is this the nut from the top view (through the intake manifold?)

I'm thinking if that's it I might try from the top first.

I'm pretty sure the bloody thing will be staying off after its done :D

Yes that looks like the Little sod . And def try from the top that's how I did it . I've just measured the ratchet and extension bar with socket on I used and its 18.5cm long it just fitted on and had enough movement to crack the nut .

Cheers for your help mate! She jumped back into life. Alternator is looking sketchy after being dunked a few times at the weekend now. Typical.

Can get parts for alternator rebuilds too, just in case :D

My starter has clicked a few times now, reckon its time for a refurb kit after reading this thread

Think an alternator rebuild is a bit beyond my skill and tool sets at the moment! :D

Fortunately I have a freshly rebuilt alternator sat in the garage just in case. Hopefully some WD40 and a few whacks with a hammer will bring it back to life again though. :D

Can definitely recommend the starter refurb, apart from that top nut the rest is easy.

Good job m8 . I noticed that my FPR was looking a little wet when I did my starter so guess it's time to change again before it really start dripping diesel . Another weekend of scraped knuckles for me

Always something to keep the skin off those knuckles isn't there! I'm having a nice easy morning and leaving it with the Polish chaps for a wash and brush up whilst I nail a fry up :D
