Just thought I'd let you guys know what happened to me on Friday. We had 2-3 inches of fresh snow, and an articulated lorry was trying to go up this hill, well and truly stuck. I asked the driver if he wanted a tow to the top and you guessed, he laughed and said with that " mate I weigh just short of 30 ton". You should have seen, it was great all the way to the top no sweat. I don't care what folk say about traction control, I wouldn't be without it. I wished I'd filmed it now. Oh yeah general grabber AT 2s on too. :D

I couldn't believe it, the traction control worked so well switching the torque to the wheels with grip. There was another guy driving another discovery the oposite way who stopped to look. The excitement on his and his kids faces were priceless. I think people were nervouse of these electronics when they first came out. They don't come without their glitches, but when they work they are absolutely fantastic.

I wonder how much the D2 td5 can actualy pull in tonnage before it starts to faulter. Saying that has anyone seen traction control fail on a disco 2 where stock (standard) diff lock on a disco 1 will go? Or vice versa.

had to pull a kia sorento 4x4 out the snow today. it was so funny he was sat there with 1 wheel spinning. i said to him do you want a push and he replied nah ive dug myself a rate hole uve no chance. i then asked him if he wanted a pull out wi disco he replied "yeah go on then" he was obviously embarrsed that his kia got stuck in 8-10inch snow. it was on the land where i park my disco. so i got in disco ploughed through snow and got out to attach rope and he said " your wheels didnt even spin" i replied they wont mate its a landrover they dont even think about getting stuck. anyway i got back in landy put it in first and let clutch out and ticking over it just pulled him straight out. After saying thanks to me he said "got a tip for you mate dont buy a kia 4x4 there fking ****e!" Result!!!

Just been out in my D2 - no dramatic rescues or anything like that just safe controlled driving on packed snow and ice. We got there, we got back we didn't turn over, end up in a ditch or anything.

Comfortingly boring really :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

D2's rock :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Nice one mate......

Slightly OT:

I was up in Newcastle in my lorry the other day, stuck out in fact because of other dumb truckers driving too fast and jack knifing everywhere !!

I was coming up a sharp gradient whilst empty and started to lose forward momentum, the truck was saved by the TC system because its an Auto, thus lacks any ability to be uber gentle with the throttle when pulling away....anyways, I would have been stuck solid without it !!

geezer across the road has got a brand new warrior,.........they look really funny when they slide backwards in the snow :),.......but not as funny as Rav's when they slide sideways and crush peugeots :)

A customer of mine had a really nice 300 tdi gs and swapped it for a navara about 4 mths ago. I was distraught and told him what I thought, his reply was that it had loads more power than the disco, and was a much better tower. Harder to park tho because of it's length. He and his wife were at my place today, absolutely gutted they were, telling me how **** it was in the snow and ice, that it scared the **** out of them today. They said that they wished they had not got rid of the disco as they were staring pecuriously at my disco with envy. Made my day.

Hello
I work for a transport company in Derbyshire we have had many vehicles stuck in the yard . Tuesday night one stuck across the yard tied a strap to rear bumper of the trailer and pulled it backwards . Great feeling when the traction control just lets you pull away .:)

I am a truck driver who is geting ****ed off going to farms in all this snow & the farm roads have not been cleared for us . so on thursday trying to get into the farm i had a TD5 pull me into the farm loaded at 44 tonnes in snow about 6inch deep now thats what i call power

I've just spent months building, and rebuilding the engine on my mates Mitsi Delica (his choice not mine), then the gearbox packs in. He bins said car(?). Buys another one(deep joy).In the mean time my Maverick goes to the great rust box in the sky, and I purchase the Disco to howls of laughter and derision from said mate.
Oh, how I didn't crack a rib laughing today after a knock on the door, only to be greeted by sheepish mate "my cars broken down (in the snow) can you come and tow me home"
Humble pie for his lunch today methinks!!

44 tonnes, "bloody hell" I was thinking about putting the diff lock back on my disco, after hearing peeps moaning about why land rover scrapped it, apparently the linkage is still there. I'm not gonna bother now really really don't need it, suppose land rover know what their doing, they must test these vehicles to their limits. It's not as if they would put their brand in jeopardy. Would love some feedback from people who's views on difflock vs traction control. Anybody seen them both in action, where one goes where the other can't. Standard disco vs standard disco, no fancy air lockers tho got to be fair. Sad I know but anybody?

I'm looking forward to having my radiator fixed and pulling everyman and his dog up the bank i live on..

has anyone started charging yet??

surely some shrewd sod must have :D

My previous TD5 GS had a D1 CDL linkage installed (with thanks to UP :D:D)
My '00 ES has the genuine D2 CDL linkage installed.... and it's fantastic - wouldn't be without it.

I use the Disco everyday / laning/ pay&plays and you can really really see the difference (Alot less drama with the more 'Extreme' bits.
Was having a play Friday down the lanes, very icy and a hill start without CDL..... the TC kicked in to get it moving..... tried again - this time locked the CDL and pulled away and no wheel spin at all. Nuff said!!

The TC does work very well IMO......but CDL and TC working together really is the dogs and the best you'll get without getting lockers fitted

Peace out :)
