PAS Fluid

Hello all!

200 tdi. Got it home and the "slight leak from the PAS pump" seems to be something a little different. There is no indication of fluid leaking from the pump, however there is evidence of a leak around the steering box itself.

I gunked it and cleaned it up at the jetwash... got all the **** off it and ran the motor again. No fluid coming from the pipes but is feel as though fuid is leaking from the bottom of the input shaft.

My question: Assuming I diagnosed this correctly... is there a seal or something that I should be looking to replace or do I need to replace the steering box?

It's normally the output shaft that leaks, u can get seals for both shafts but as I found out once they dont last long as the bearings are also worn I had to get a replacement box in the end.

you can replace input seal but box needs to be off to do it,i could tell you how if you wanted

You could always try a bottle of Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak if the leak isn't too bad.
I'm told it often works.

I'll try the stop leak first methinks.
