A lot more cutting than i thought....

Made the cuts, then made some more....then some more!!!

Mind you, makes change cutting out good metal and not rotten and rusty metal :D

I used a thick rubber hose. Jammed it in tight and smoothed out with tiger seal. Works a treat and looks good. Put a few Rivets in bottom of door for good measure.

I have used the rubber seal from inside the door that has been cut off as a temp measure for now.

Just wanting to get the arches on to keep on the right side of the plod, then when i have a bit more time i will either fill them with the fibre glass p38 or whatever it is, or weld in a thin strip of metal for completeness when i am next doing some welding, as i think i need to shorten the sliders at the front so will need to cap them off when i have shaved off an inch or so ;)

265/70/16's - some people say too small, but I think they are just right - esp since its an 'everyday' vehicle and not just 'pay and play'.

But its lovely now with the offset as I have wound in the steering bump stops and I can actually turn - reckon they came in about 15mm each side, and can actually take them in further without any rubbing issues :D

Oh, plus a lot more cutting yesterday and all the arches are fitted.

Had to trim down the front of the sliders, took off about 25mm so just need to weld on some new ends now to complete the job....but its looking good if I do say so myself

Hi bud, disco's looking really good now. I was just wondering if you had any during photo's of the rear arch cutting do you? I've got them to do on mine and i'm just trying to get as much info as possible before I go hacking the doors/arches to bits. Did you just go with trial and error until they fitted?

I too had to shorten my sliders, I took 3" out of each end, but did it just behind the curve of the slider part itself so it looks the same.

Hi, sorry no pics of the job getting done.

I too looked for threads on doing the rears, and never found much, and when i did mine i realised why, as its one of those jobs that's easier to do than explain.

Just line up the arches, mark and cut and then line up, and cut a bit more.

Always best to cut off too little than too much was my view ;) took a bit longer but at least i know i never chopped off too much

I also used rivnuts instead of self tappers as think they are stronger, although again took a bit longer than just screwing in some self tapper.

Ok, no worries, thanks for replying. I guess its one of those things i'm just going to have to suck it and see. I'll do the same as you though and just cut a little, then cut a little more and go from there.

Cheers.

It isnt as hard as you think, just time consuming with the doors having 2 skins to cut through

If you've got time, have a look in my build thread - there's a couple of photos in there. :D
