As many will be aware from next January any Disco built before 2002 powered by a diesel engine will need modifying to be driven within the London and Greater London area.
At the moment the conversion costs £2.5 k more than some of our discos are worth.
Has anyone got any leads on companies who may be able to offer a cost effective conversion?

contact the dvla and they'll take ya off the LEZ list as a station wagon or summit.Theres a thread on here about it.

Bugger that !! Now I KNOW I will never visit the centre of London EVER !!

i live within the lez zone and my 2000 td5 es auto is exempt.
this is because its registered as an estate on the log book.
so not all landy`s affected, mainly commercials.

I didn't think that Disco's were included as they aren't classed as a utility vehicle.
I know that all pre-date Defenders are though. The TD5 meets the emission spec, my mate had to cough up extra for one when he really wanted a 300tdi.
Look out for lots of 300tdi defenders coming up for sale soon with London post codes !!

Disco's aren't included. Only commercially derived vehicles which means Defenders.
It is however possible to get your Defender reclassified in some cases. there is a long running thread about this somewhere.
By the way, early TD5's (I think pre 2002) are not exempt. They have to be Euro something or other compliant which only came in after a certain date.

well my td5`s a 2000 model and according to the tfl registration checker.
it`s exempt.

My 2001 isn't according to the TFL website. And it's not just central London - the LEZ extends right out to Heathrow, which puts the kybosh on our trips to Crystal Palace caravan club site.

My V5C calls my Disco a Light Utility 4x4 eve though it's a 5-seat passenger model. People have talked about getting it reclassified - how does this work?

i did ring tfl up to query my 7 seat caravelle as its not exempt. tfl said its because its a minibus. i said that according to their own site minibus`s with less than 9 seats are exempt. tfl said that they get their data from dvla and that all it states on my log book is minibus.i rang dvla and they said fill in the appropriate part of the log book with seating capacity and they will alter the log book accordingly.so you could try changing the log book so it states it`s an estate.the lez zone encompasses the london boroughs, not just central london.

I've just checked Microcat and it says mine is a 5 door station wagon - and Land Rover should know what they've made. VIN decoders also indicate that the "M" in position 7 of the VIN mean the same thing.

So I think I'll send the V5 to Swansea with a covering letter indicating this.

Just checked mine agin last time last year
Mines a 2000 (W reg)TD5 7 Seater Disco
comes up with Not subject to lez
on my v5 it says Estate

Go on the train like I do with thousands of others every day, why do you need to take a Land Rover into Central London :)
I never go into central london the zone covers the whole of the Greater London Area which extends right out to the Surrey boarders 15 miles from central London I live in Epsom and am 1 mile from the zone and will have to choose my local routes very carefully.
