Went out to my car this evening, turned key and all dashboard lights, heater fan and radio came on but then turned key to start car and no turnover. The only thing that changed was the radio went off.

Read on here that 4 clicks on the lock button of the remote reset the immobiliser so tried that and the car started.

Stopped the engine and tried to restart, dead again. tried the reset but still no turnover.

Can anyone give me any advice or suggestions as to what is causing this? And seeing as it will have to go into the garage tomorrow any ideas of cost.

It is a 2004 TD5

Thanks in advance

Neil

could be solenoid on starter it gives intermittent fault to begin with easy to change with starter on vehicle you can get kit for £10 on ebay, but can be cleaned to help for short while 3 x 8mm spanner size bolts ,

Thank you for the suggestions. If I had the time I would have got a kit off ebay and reconditioned the starter solenoid but I have a really busy week and need car to work so it has gone into the garage this morning.

That's a shame Neil as it only takes about an hour to redo the starter solenoid plus a £10 kit.

Just did mine last week and all is well now.

Hi Guys, reading the posts it would seem I have the same problem.
Washed the car on Saturday, went to start it and nothing, so locked it and unlocked it and then it started.
Wife used it for work this morning and it started first time, however, when she came to go home - nothing.
Everything works electrically, even fuel pump working and relay clicking, but absolutely nothing when turning key to crank???
I will try the starter solenoid and see if that works.
Cheers Guys

before you do that, just try giving the fly lead (small spade connector) on the starter motor a wiggle.
