Hi, Chris...some questions to know where to start

1. Is the engine oil level good?(what oil and when did u replace it) ....if the level and the oil are OK, after the cold start does the oil pressure lamp extinguish instantly?

2. When did u replace the auxiliary belt?

If the oil pressure lamp goes off right away after u started it u have no probs there...question nr 2 was cos it could be a play in one of the pulleys which dissapears after the aux. belt turns it a bit.

I really appreciate your help but I'm not very technical I thought there would be a simple answer some one said it sounds like the thrust clutch bearing but it looks like I'll have to take it to a garage which sounds expensive

some one said it sounds like the thrust clutch bearing

Ok m8...could be that too....first of all put a fresh oil in it and see what happens.......anyway if it's just on cold start it's useless to go to a garage now cos there it wont be cold start again;) ....... if its some play in a pulley it will degenerate in time and will be easyer to diagnose.....good luck

If it goes by depressing the clutch as somebody has already said it could be the clutch thrust bearing,my dad used to have a transit that did the same after being stood.
Try pressing the clutch in before starting after it's been stood to see if you still have the noise then.

No disrespect intended but it sounds like you are new to the wonderful world of Land Rover?

If the noise is only there on early cold morning starts I would worry about it too much, especially as it is not apparent if you depress the clutch. Incidentally, on early morning starts, you will help your engine if you depress and hold the clutch whilst starting the engine - release it once the engine has started.

It sounds like you have a slightly worn clutch thrust bearing, but cars will run for ages before giving you a problem - normally.

I only point this out as it is not a small job to replace this item as the gearbox and engine must be separated, which takes man-hours. Also, it is prudent to replace the whole clutch whilst the 2 are separated - quality clutch kits cost about £85 so that's not too bad but the labour charges will not be cheap.

Good luck

Dave

There was no need for that. He said he was new to the forum not LR's. Also I don't like assuming anything.

However I don't need to assume that you are an angry little shît - I now know.
