Hello Guys N Girls ( If We Have Any )

Got a problem with my LIGHTS :( Now i lost my lights-
** But had side lights ** took it to the garage and at first they said it was the relay then said it was the
Dim / Dip Unit ( see pic ).. The Cost of the unit is £110 + VAT & i have seen a few post about how they can fail like hot cakes & if you disconnect it your lights will still work.. Now since it was disconnected lights have come on a few times but then nothing..

A guy that does land rover ( but he is not a wire man ) first linked it up with my side lights & the stalk got HOT so today it change it by putting on it's own switch from the battery that linked up with the lights with a fuse.. Tonight went out got 3 miles up the road and it started to burn the had a small flame ... Done one in me pants :) put it out and disconnect the wire... Now i need to know the best way on what to do as i need lights and MOT is next month 4th and the garages here don't really know what to do ...

Thanks Guys

Hi there, this is a TDi 200 right? I didn't think they had a dim dip???

Anyway, one of the favourite failures on electrics and TDi 200 are the fuseable links in the engine bay on the drivers side. They are in-line fuses and they are wrapped up in a sort of cotton type material. They tend to corrode over time. Check here before spending any money.

Good luck

Dave

Hi Thebiglad ..

Yes it is a 200tdi & the 200 does have the Dim / Dip unit , What is the best way to look at the fuseable links and renew them if needed.

I can not understand why my lights will not work without the DD Unit as there are many people who have removed them as they fail .

But i so need my light soon ..

Find the fuseable links in their material cover, undo the cover and check to see whether the links are intact or broken/corroded - repair as necessary.

They do and they are a bl--dy nuisance. They tend to fail due to corrosion and cause a number of electrical problems.
If they haven't been replaced by now they should be.
Replaced by a fuse board in the 300 series.

Not 100% how you mean do you mean replace the links and use a 300 fuse board .. thx

Also is it a hard job to do

Then in that case it would be safer if you get an auto electrician to look at your disco and repair whats necessary.
This piece of cable handles some fairly high currents, so if a repair is required it should to be done properly. We don't want your disco to catch fire do we :(
