Hi all. I have spent a long time reserching about the formidable EGR replacement. I now have the kit BUT have a slight issue!! My 1998 300 tdi (jap import) seems to have a "water jacket" around the egr! I cannot seem to find ANY reference anywhere on the internet about this. Whats the best way to deal with this, just simply connect the pipes or is there anything else i need to do. I have attached a pic below! (not sure how to put it directly on here). Any help would be great before i start to replace the egr. Thanks

Why are you replacing the EGR, just blank the damn thing off :) I would imagine the coolant pipes are there to cool the exhaust gasses before it passes back into the engine.
I'd leave the pipes as they are and just blank the EGR off.

well i'v got two very thick, td5alive blanking plates left over from doing mine, i'v offered them free many times on this forum but knowone seems to want them, or presume i'm dodgy for offering them...anyhow they're still up for grabs and would sole your problem. I left water jacket in place on mine..

lol, What I ment to say was I have bought a Blanking kit to tottaly remove the EGR. What I want to know is what to do with the cooling pipes. Whats the best way to join them together?

Right I have now removed the end pipe and capped it off, replaced the large pipe, cleaned out the end of the inlet manifold (fairly full of gung) and capped both ends of the vacum pipe. Took for a spin and left my backside still on the roundabout as the car took off. Well lets see how the fuel consumption changes!!!

Thats how I did my jap spec 300,but I replaced the water hose with a standard one and ran a spare curved length in a circle to each of the heat exchanger spigots to stop the MOT man looking to closely.

.
why? it is not a requisite for MOT to have a EGR fitted

Thanks Shocker, its ok when it comes to the MOT. Take it to my mates garage, he has been MOT'ing my cars for nearly 10 years. Its amazing what a bag of doghnuts or cookies does!!!
