Hi all, my Hand break on my disco 3 has ceased to work, theres no sound at all from the actuating motor all fuses have been checked and are good. thankfully it`s stuck in the off position, had it to my local landy specialist who says the will will have to take the hand break motor out to test it and test the wiring. sounds expensive. so have no hand break at the mo. Oh and it`s just had a 75,000 service at the same local landy specialist 3 days ago, the prob did`t start till the day after the service, call me paranoid but wondered if they`d done anything that has caused it. of course they are denying it as they would but hey it might be just coincidence. As it has nearly 75,000 I asked how much it would cost to have a new clutch in when the time arrives, they recommened that I change the fly wheel as well, and it would cost £1500 as there was 12 hours labour involved. does this sound close to the mark, Gary.

There is nothing in a service that would make an EPB fail,so I think it would be unfair to blame them for that - you are lucky its worked as long as it has.
As for the clutch,a local LR indy I do diagnostic work for did one a while ago,it needed a flywheel and concentric slave cylinder too.(Most do.) They used genuine parts which were £1100+vat and they reckoned it took alot longer than 12 hours......
Quality isnt it ? And how much has it depreciated by since you wrote your original question ?

clucking bell...that is expensive, shame, I like the shape but at those prices it'll remain a dream. Why do they have to have electric handbrakes?! I'd prefer to have something mechanical to rely upon

Aey too right. thought it must just be coincidence, Ah well sounds like an ok price when the clutch needs doing. got to say my local Landy specalist has been great with me when the hand break stopped working they got it straight into the workshop to check it out and never charged me for hooking it up to the diagnostic it is booked in to have the EPD done, they also changed a fuse for me as i thought me screen washers had just frozen up but the fuse had blown. They are always really helpfull with advice and always have time to explain things to you.

a mechanic i know said if there adjusted incorrectly they wont work and will stick either on or off, handbreak adjustment is part of a service(in my garage anyway) and could have lead to this, just dont go in saying its happened since they were at it because they wont like you then :)

Hi They told me that on the disco 3 It's self adjusting and therefore it don't need fiddling with.
