Discovery 1 200tdi Turbo and things

Hi,

My turbo is whistling and there is no kick to it anymore so I presume the turbo is going / gone. My question is: a) is it easier to refurbish the turbo, when I say that I mean cheaper or b) buy a second hand one, I've seen a lot with the manifold included etc.

Also, when I'm at a stand still and rev the engine there is a whining sound when I accelerate, it could be the power steering pump maybe?

hi there you might be able to get one off a disco that is being broken for speres, there are loads of them on ebay being broken!! you might find one there,hope this helps

what makes you think it's busted ?

Turbos do whistle, I'd check for delaminated pipes and air leaks first, when a turbo blows, you will know it, so will the cars behind you

I agree with Dave, check for split pipes, air leaks and clean out the intercooler, no point bying a new turbo before you know that it's actually broken.

i know when mine went it sounded like i'd got a cat stuck in there lol. as for the other sound check the alty as well as the pas pump and also the water pump
