Sorry for the new thread.
I did lots of searching before and thats why I am midway changing the transfer box / rear diff oils.

Anyway I’m getting a whine from the back of the Disco.
Just changed the diff oil, what came out looked ok to me.
Just drained the transfer box, that too looked OK (pig of job re-filling it)

Also noticed some play if i rotate the prop, is this normal?

there will be some play in prop both rotationlly and up/down as output shaft outer end goes through ball brg as compared to diff which has taper brg (no up/down play)how much is too much is difficult to say without feeling it ,does itrotate smoothly while pulling down on shaft ,but cant be too much otherwise seal would be totally worn rear seal needs doing same about brg you want to be feeling for notcheness,as you rotate it both output shafts go iunto center diff which will have some play + then play in gears check axle diff flanges for outer diff brg wear
