I have been trying to establish the cause of play in the transmission on my defender 90. I have checked the rear halfshafts and flanges which seem ok. There is some play in the rear diff but it doesn't seem excessive after doing some research on here. I then took off the rear prop and checked the splines and the UJ's which also seem fine. I am now trying to work out if there is a problem with the transfer box as there seems to be quite a bit of rotational play here. I have attached two videos (first one showing the play in gear with the diff locked and the second in neutral with the diff locked). Please can you help me establish if this is normal or where I should look next. Thanks very much.

A little rotational play is normal, however there should minimum to none lateral play.

Thanks Harry and Landyfox. Looks like my preventative measures haven't come to much. I'm thinking the play might just be a combination of everything being a bit worn rather than one thing. Perhaps I should just put it back together and keep using it until something actually breaks.
