98 300tdi oil - have i fooked up?

Reads some threads that said 5w/30 for a 300tdi. Then changed oil/filter to 5w/30 now reading some more i read i shoulda used 10w/40 - have i fooked up, got a long drive to scotland coming up so need to know please.

it just alters the hot and cold perfomance characteristics of the oil slightly......

Yeah it will be fine. Mine is still running on 5w 30 after I went to the Arctic. (Had to change it for -40c!!)
It will increase the chances of you having an oil leek though.
