Hi guys I'm looking to store my spare wheel behind the drivers seat on the wheel arch on my 90 has anyone else done this before? I want it off the back door not on the bonnet and ideally not mounted against internal bulkhead.

Any pics or ideas would be appreciated

You can get a well that fits into the wheel box and steadies the wheel, with a strap to hold it higher up. I think Ive seen them in series, but it should work in Defender too. Sorry, I don't have any pics but sure someone will.

Thanks turbo I'll try and track down a picture

Mine's in the back, not sure if there'd be room in 90 though...

Yeah when I was looking at buying a 90 I was thinking more of a 90 with or without bench seats in the back or without seats altogether in the back and thinking I could fix the spare to the rear bulkhead like on series trucks if it had a spare on the back door but as it happened I ended up buying a 90 county which had 4 x side facing rear seats in the back ( county spec ) and there asn't enough room to mount the spare on the rear bulkhead but although I havn't measured it up yet I am thinking of replacing the side facing rear seats with 4 x disco1 dickie seats as they are a lot smaller and if I position them right I mite be able to fit the spare wheel to the back of the rear bulkhead but not sure.

but then again I mite be able to move the egzysting rear seats further back don't know :)

I had mine ratchet strapped above the wheel arch in the back for a while, but it squeaked a lot. Now it is lying in the bed until I get a swing away carrier

My spare wheel has been strapped to the bulkhead with ratchet straps, and more recently lying on the floor in the back of the 90. Either way it's always in the way, when it was on the bulkhead the squeaking drove me up the wall! So if you are starting from scratch I would fit a swing away carrier. Unfortunately even though I got one with my 90 it doesn't fit any more due to my rear bumpers and mountain bike rack on the tow hitch. But I am looking to re engineer it so it does fit, and change the bike rack to a spare wheel hanger type.
