Where do you keep your spare wheel?

I think in the back of a 90 will **** you off sooner or later space wise, my 88 has its spare 7.50 in the back and as said above its always in the way, the 90 has its 8.25 on the swing away and its nice to just ignore it, still not enough room but would be way worse with a spare in there.
As for the internal roof mount idea, could be good but I would say roof not man enough for the job.
Two bad things with bonnet spares, makes it an arse to lift the bonnet and really limits under bonnet access as you cant flip it up against the windscreen.

But how often do you need to lift the bonnet? Or especially flip it right back? I'm in and out of my back door all day long so it'd be a pain to have the spare on there even on a swingaway thingy.

Ive never liked havin a wheel on the bonnet, for a number of reasons. It puts a lot of load on the bonnet hinges, and on the bumpstops and latch on the front.
And it obstructs visibility, especially close up in front, where you really want to see if youre going very slow off road. Not quite so bad on 90/110, but series windscreen is small enough as it is.
Also it is a pain, heaving it up every time you check the oil and water, or top up the washer bottle.
Bonnet frames are well able to support the wheel and tyre when new, but on older vehicles they may be rusty enough to allow the bonnet to sag visibly.

I flip the bonnet all the time even for basics checks it make seeing everything easy, simple things like lift pump replacement (to often on the 200 engine!), bit of wiring, chase the oil leak etc, as Im always tinkering.
The swingaway I have opens and closes with the rear door, so its not in the way at all.

Buying cheap if you're having to replace your lift pump often. I've never touched mine once. And I love having the wheel on the bonnet, its never got in the way and if, for some bizarre reason, I need to completely remove the bonnet then ill just take the wheel off. It's only two bolts and takes a whole 5 minutes

the wolf is right. I only open my bonnet maybe once a week to check oils etc and on the rare occasion I need to get a bit more room I can take the spare off. The only place I can think of where it would be less in the way would be on the roof.

What use is a spare wheel at home? :what:
Just make sure if you're hauling the spare with you that you have the wheel brace and a jack that will raise up the wheel high enough, chocks, spreader boards etc. if you're off road.

How likely is a puncture with good tyres? I only had one puncture with my 90, never had a puncture with my 88" or my RRC. In fact now I think of it, only 1 of my cars had more than 1 puncture and that was due to dodgy split rim alloys and I've been driving for nearly 30 years.

Worst case, park it up and phone for a lift, come back with the spare and all the equipment.

I know it sounds a bit stupid, but I'm just saying its an option.

I carry everything I need to repair almost every fault at the side of the road. Fits into a small toolbox, got my jack, spare wheel and a couple spare parts. Takes up almost no room inside the vehicle.

Oh and the last time I had to use my spare wasn't because I had a puncture ;).

That's a cheeky wink on the end, now you got me thinking it was some liaison with rough n ready wench.

Maybe for you that is the case.
But if you lived up a long track, with blackthorn growing all along it, and repaired with waste stone that sometimes has nails in it, you would get far more.
Average here would be two a year on the landy, maybe one on the car, and probably one on either the tractor or one of the trailers.

Me too. :)

I wouldent advise chucking it in the back like some of the others have due to the weight in the event of a crash it will kill you very easily even if you have a truck cab or pickup as the bulkhead or roof wont take that impact, I have had a roll of mig wire rip rear seats from the hinges and hit the back of the passenger seat in a vw Passat when it hit a ditch, bonnet is a possibility and looks good but I don't find it that practical due to visability and weight , I have mine on a swingaway carrier as its secure, safe and gives more weight on the arse when offroad and wet roads ( before it was put there it used to get the back out on bends if you left off or braked in emergency )
