Noisy rear axle..

Wonder if someone can advise - the Salisbury rear axle on my 1996 110 300TDI is pretty noisy, sort of loud road noise without any vibration, which increases with speed. Very evident when coasting. Have recently changed the oil in the rear diff, and noticed some metal specks in the old oil.

Is this likely to be cured by a bit of TLC to the diff, or major surgery required?

at very least new bearings and better done sooner than later,if you want to do it your self i can advise you,built hundreds

Hello, could you let me know how you fixed your problem? I have the very same symptoms on my Defender 110, 07 nothing drastic at the moment but would like to catch before it develops!
