oil leak

fitted a 2.2 5 bearing diesel standard engine, and noticed i have an oil leak coming from the rear of the sump at the joint, sinse then i have fitted two new sump gaskets (not together ) using a smear of silicon on the gasket, and i still get a small leak at the rear, i am beginning to think that it might be coming from the joint between the flywheel housing and the block, has that joint got a gasket?, or could it be the rear crankshaft oil seal, although i have no oil coming out of the wading plug.

its common for the 4 cylinders to leak around main bearing joint .gasket err1440 with bottom cut off helps cure the problem

so wich gasket is that for James?

originally to try and cure leaks between flywheel housing and rear of block on 200 tdi as the previous means on earlier engines didnt fare too well

ok so it is coming from the flywheel housing and block, so got to take engine out again, thanks James.

its hard to see, it looks like its coming from the centre sump stud at the back, i have tried banging some silicon around and then putting a copper washer on before the nut, but still seems to seep through.
