Will there be any offroaders left?

Just browsing a car mag and it seems every new 4x4 is really an SUV or Crossover. The new Jeep Cherokee, new Suzuki Vitara...now the LR Discovery Sport in the ever-growing list of cars intended for the masses (i.e. not teally offroad). Defender being discontinued next year as well. What will we all be driving in ten years time after the last D2 chassis has turned to dust?

I guess we'll have to keep rebuilding our land rovers

I'll still hopefully have my 90. Cost me bloody enough

Expect I shall be driving my 90. It seems fairly rust free, and even if it goes corrosion critical I can get a new chassis!

I suppose there is a possibility such things may be legislated off the roads, but I would still get plenty of use around the farm.

i'd only start worrying when manufacturers stop producing parts.

If they are legislated off the roads I'm off too.....

No car has ever been legislated off the road - look at the London to Brighton run - all those cars are still 100% road legal.

As for spares, well look at the market. What percentage of spares are available from non LR manufacturers?

A good example is the Morris Minor. The manufacturer has not existed for decades, but all parts are still available new - including all body panels, engine bloack etc. etc. Not too many years ago somebody built a brand new one from new parts. I think the same will happen with Series and Defenders - certainly up to 300.

3D printing will also make it increasingly practical to manufacure one-off components.

I cant see any of these later "4x4s" going far off road have you seen the ground clearance on the disco 3 or range rovers, cant see them clearing much more than a speed hump lol

Most of the people ive noticed who complain about defenders stopping production are those who dont buy new defenders anyway

Theyre air suspension so adjustable. I cant wait for em to be affordable. Ill have mine supercharged please.

That only lifts the body, all the undercarriage stays where it is !

My series till I not allowed to drive any more then past onto my grandson to carry on with

Disco 4 has 310 mm of clearance according to landrover. Thats over a foot with the air suspension and manual lift.. That will do for me.
