So? Drive under the limit, then you won't get fined.
Honestly, why has everyone forgotten that the speed limit is the MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE speed, not the speed you should aim to beat.

Most speedos underread anyway, so doing 70 on the clock, you will find you are actually just doing 65-7mph.
So, drive another 5 mph slower and save a small fortune in Diesel.

GPS. And I doubt everyone only drives within the permitted speeds.
Also, I suspect the Daily Fail is ignoring the possibility that the Spanish police (in common with all European and Swiss police forces) actually take 5km off the recorded speed before calculating if you are over, precisely to allow for inaccuracy. Plus, every car I have owned has read faster than the actual speed (although my D2 is within s couple of km/h of the real speed).
The limit in Spain on motorways is 130km/h. If you drive at an indicated 120, you won't be fined - simple as that.

The thing is UK and Spain are having a issue over Gibraltar. And have really come down hard on Brits which has caused diplomatic issues. So they change there motoring laws, so it is allegedly applied to everyone who drives in there country. But I'll bet dollars to doughnuts the cops have been told to only go after British registered vehicles.

Speedos are not allowed to read less than actual speed but can read up to 10% more than actual, so you will never be travelling at more than the indicated speed on your speedo.
The only speedo that has been very close to being accurate was the RS calibrated one on on the ST1100 I had.

I'm a bit concerned as I'm heading to Santander on the Ferry and using my TomTom app on the iPhone to find my way around. As I have traffic and speed cameras alert would that count as a detector?
Who could I approach for a definitive answer?

Seriously, the new law prohibits actual detection/jamming, not devices that advise you on their location using a database.

They have a similar rule here in France. It is illegal for you to have a radar detector or an indication of approaching radar.
Tomtom at least have got round this rule by changing their warning for radars to be a general warning that doesn't mention radar in any way, yer honour.
Or you can just turn off the radar detection function.

All seems silly really, if your speeding then you just need to look out for cameras and police etc, if you get caught then pay the fine all seems simple.
The radar stuff well I wouldn't worry to much at all, in practice I would imagine a slap on the wrist and being told to put it in the glove box. I certainly won't be going out of my way to remove my radar jamming equipment

Here in France any radar detector that picks up a radar beam is liable to a £1200 fine and the unit confiscated. A Tom Tom type devise that gives you a warning that a speed camera is coming up is acceptable. They call them safety alerts.
