Handbook specifies MIL-L-2105 90W EP

GSF (a local factor) suggests Carlube MTF94 Gear Oil but doesn't give the spec for this stuff. Is it a modern product that is a suitable substitute for what I expected to be a molasses textured lubricant?

I would have thought 75w/80 is more of a gearbox oil as it is slightly thinner than 90 - but as my dad said when his sump cracked and leaked oil everywhere, he temp repaired and filled with what ever he could get hold of - mum being mum, she said that oil he bought wasn't the right one, he said it was all he could get hold of, and wrong oil is better than no oil....

Although 75w/80 is listed in some cases as a Diff oil, Land Rover sepcify 75/90, so maybe when you a spare 10 minutes, to drain and refill.

My copy of RAVE says 75w/90 for my 2001.

I've used fully synthetic 75w/90 from Smith & Allens off Ebay. 5 litres delivered to your door for 28 squids. No affiliation just a satisfied customer. Fully synthetic = slightly less diesel into the little door near the back! If you've around 100K miles and don't know what's in your axles I would suggest an oil change.

75W80 is a fully synthetique extreme pressure gear oil and I thought it met the spec for the P38 diffs. It's what I use in mine:)
75W90 has an operating temperature range up to 55C, not needed in the UK or France LOL
