Following on from the thread http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/coming-soon-underpigeon-near-you-218296.html and my recent purchase, I had time this evening to fit the aforementioned.....

My initial thinking was to make a small plate to fit in place of the existing puddle lamp lens as I didn't want to drill holes in the existing door/panels/door cards, but alas, our machinist at work is flat out with 'proper' work at the moment, and I couldn't wait any longer (been a couple of weeks now since they arrived )

I made a call to Land Rover Dealer local to me to enquire on the price of replacement Puddle Lamp Lenses should I balls it up, following Bix's comment that if they are that cheap you may aswell take a punt on modifiying the existing and pay for replacements should it go wrong!

Here goes:

Pop out the Puddle Lamp lens from under the door pocket

Remove the existing Lamp

Using the supplied Hole Cutter , take the hole saw part off and use it as a guide to line up the hole and mark with a pen, then using a sharp drill smaller than the supplied one with the Hole Cutter, drill a pilot hole. You want to get this dead centre, else the Locking Ring may foul on the reces the lens fits into on the door...

The using the Hole Cutter supplied, carefully drill through the plastic lens.....plastic is easier to drill if it is warm, so on a cold day (when the plastic is brittle) warm it up in some hot water for a few minutes first!

Fit the New Logo Lamp into the hole and using one of the locking rings to hold it firmly in place....

I decided to cut the existing wiring connector off the vehicle wiring and use 'Bullet' connectors to complete the wiring, this way if I want to revert back to original Puddle Lamps, I can fit 'Bullet' connections to the cut off connector and revert back.

It is always prudent to ensure the Positive Wire has a connection on that is sheilded when discconected, also ensure you get the polarity correct for the Logo Lamp (Vehicle Brown wire is the Earth)

Tuck the cabling into the door and push the Puddle Lamp into the hole again.

It was still too light to see the logo, but here it is projected onto my hand, I will update this post with a photo taken when it gets darker so the full effect can be seen

Only issue so far is the position means the top of the white circle border is clipped by the door edge, I will fettle with that and see if I can adjust, but happy days in anycase!!

Repeat for the other side!!

EDIT: Night Time Shots (Sorry for the quality taken on iPhone)

Saint, just a thought... if you can measure up the original fitting and knock up a 3d model (save as stl file or igs might be ok) email it to me and I'll grow a proper fitting in our 3d printer and send it to you. Would be interesting to see if it worked out. I could do the cad bit too if required but i would need the fitting to measure.

Two options for the cut off.
1: Use a spacer so the lamp fits in off centre.
2: Use a black Sharpie and draw a ring around the lens to block out the outer ring.

I would Looooooove a 3D printer....

I will do just that, Considering I am a Design Engineer and most of my work is 3D Modelling, creating the model will be simple....!!

Intrigued....Will see what can be done! I'll create in Solidworks and export as STL...

Ok, we all know I am a bit slow on these things so I have a question.

Where do the wires in the first pic go, once it's all together?

Does it join the wires in the 2nd?

Then hide inside the black bit which houses the chavtasticism? Or is it pushed back up so that all that is seen is the black cable for the chavtoy?

For smaller units they're starting as low as £800ish. Go on treat yourself. I know I keep looking at them :)

All very well and good, but shouldn't you concentrate on firing a Land Rover Logo into the sly so the breakdown services can find you next time? :D :behindsofa:

Wires in the First pic are from the vehicle wiring loom that was previously connected to the original puddle lamp, I cut the original black connector off and fixed the red bullet connections as seen in this pic.

Does it join the wires in the 2nd?
Yes, these two are the wires from the Black Logo Lamp...with Bullet Connections on ready to connect to the ones in the first pic....

Yes the black cables, original Vehicle cables and Bullet connections are all pushed up into the recess in the door panel where the original wiring was in the first place...
.

You sound a little too interested in these lights
That is because the realisation that having a silly gold RR isn't as good as a NDB RR with fancy puddle lamps, it'll now be a silly gold RR with fancy puddle lamps. Although I am sure you'll still see lots of scoffing and objection on here. :p
