If I oil my bicycle chain with the stuff will make me go up hills faster? :D

James, you don't use additives do you? I assume just regular changes of quality oil should be what's required?

no never just mineral oil changed frequently ,from eperience you see alot of engines gear boxes that are run on exspensive oil too long you can see it in the brgs etc instead of adding stuff the most important is to get the **** out ,you can see a trend though ,some gearboxes now have filter seals on brgs to let oil through but not contaminents so that box using synthetic can be filled for life but baulkrings gears etc is still running on contaminated oil later in its life and is unrepairable as everthing is worn 6 years seems to be as long as neede to last

I was lulled into the masturbating theory by the erroneously named "lay-shaft" with absolutely NO beneficial effect to me or the vehicle. The money spent on internet viagra was completely wasted :mad::mad::mad::mad:

On the subject of engine cleaning....in a strictly non snake oil sense....can someone (James,CharlesY) suggest a realistic way to go about it,with the lump IN the vehicle...???

In years gone by I would use flushing oil but this is harder to get now and pretty damn pricey too.I had used,on older lorries, diesel, parrafin, kerosene heating oil (favourite) to add to oil and run, then more to flush through. But again, getting pretty pricey and I dont know how EDC would like it,not really understanding its functions as well as I should. Not keen on synth oils, saw too many problems with early ones, dare say they are fine now but I am bigotted that way. What mineral oils have a higher or more effective detergent content? And how to go about using them?Thoughts from the panel.......

i wouldnt ,engine flushes are usually paraffin ,which i wouldnt recommend just use a higher detergent oil like commercial diesel mineral oil,it will clean it then change it ,synthetic oils are mainly used nowadays as you can prelong service intervals, oil wont effect edc ,higher detergent wont make your engine spout leaks or engine breathe heavy but would help in keeping rings clean, reduce brg wear and good oil feed

I ask about detergent levels bot because I am worried about damage but because I WANT the detergent high for the cleaning effect. I currently use a commercial vehicle lubricant that my local farmers supply store sell instead of universal tractor oil.It is the rated oil for various scania, perkins, volvo, cummins (et al) engines and of the correct number code for the 300tdi.

I was wanting you to advise me on the oil with the highest useful detergent level as the bulk stuff I mention above doesnt have much info available. But thank you for the reply....keeping the rings in good nick is important to me due to the possible gumming from WVO blend fuels.

i would say what your using was as good as you would want ,the old universal as was ,was in my opion as good as you could get .but modern equivalents would be as good ,i wouldnt want to go further
