Sorry to here asking for advice. I am new to cars in general and we all have to learn somewhere right.

Freelancer 2 - 2007 TD4 S Diesel

I was driving tonight and the front wipers just stopped, pointing upwards like a Mexican wave. I was on a dual carriageway but luckily the rain was just slowing down.

Managed to get home with no problems, parked up and turned the engine off. Just went back to see if somehow some it magically fixed, started the engine, hit the wipers and they cycled once then stopped again.

Any ideas what this could be and or a simple fix (ideally).

Thanks for any help, always appreciate the kind advice.

Check the fuse first. In my experience, the most likely cause of stopping is an issue with be the wiper motor. Testing the power at the motor is the way to confirm that though.
 
Double check you have not got it on intermittent mode, sometimes these FL throw a gremlin out of it's pram if wet and damp weather, start car and put wipers on very fast mode see what happens, also check the fuse.

It is intermittent. It started, moved a couple of times this morning and then stopped again. Also, ordered fuses and will switch when they arrive.

Just looked at the fuses and noticed the ABS and Wipers are both 30's so switched them around to see if that made a difference:

Sadly it did not/ Wipers ran better though but stuttered. Cycled between 8 and 10 times struggling more near the end then stopped again.

Guessing it's not the fuse then.

Next is to measure the voltage at the wiper motor, to prove the supply. If the wiper motor is getting voltage, then the motor is the cause.
 
Are yer switching the wipers on to run constant or using the rain sense option? We need to know if they fail when switched on to run constant by themselves.

Trying both with same result.

This is just bad timing as I have it going in for it's MOT in 6 days :p
 
I wonder if you have switched on the winter wiper park option. Later FL2's have the option selectable in the dash menu but it only raises the wipers a few inches from memory. Earlier FL2's you could enable it by holding down the wiper switch while switching oft the ignition and it parked the wipers verticle.
 
More than likely that over time the linkage arm off the wiper motor has worn & slipped off. A bit fiddly to replace but not difficult. Google "wiper motor linkage arm" & you should find them easily enough

That's interesting.

So the early FL2's have 'winter wiper park' which is enabled using the stalk when switching the ignition oft. Wipers go to the verticle position.

Later FL2's enable 'winter wiper park'' WWP via the dash display. The wipers move 2 or 3 inches up the screen and stay there. When using the wipers they operate as normal but always go back to the WWP positon, even when driving. When you stop using the wipers or switch the engine oft they stay in the WWP position until you switch oft WWP in the dash display.

That's correct. Winter park needs activation each time the ignition is turned off, as it's cancelled the moment the wipers are operated.
I'm guessing this was the only way to do it, as there's no settable menu to access.
