Hi guys,

Firstly, thanks for all the great advice in here. I've often been close to registering when I've had an issue with my TD4 but a quick search has always come up trumps and I've managed to sort the fix myself.

Finally I'm a little stuck and was wondering if anyone could offer advice.

My wipers decided to just stop working this morning in the rain on the M40, then after a short while I could smell something burning or overheating so stopped at the services to check. The motor was still trying to return the wipers to the park position, even though I'd twisted the knob back to off. With a little manual assistance, the wipers returned and the motor stopped making a noise, but every time I try to use them now they make it to the top, then get stuck in exactly the same place on return, with the motor still making noise even when I turn them off. The motor gets louder if I try to increase the speed of the wipers.

Any thoughts? I'm fairly competent at taking things apart and putting them back together, so very happy to try a fix myself if you think it's feasible.

Cheers!

How is the wiper linkage? Is sounds like it dropped a link, that is jamming against the bodywork. The motor will always try to self park, even if the linkage fails. This will result in an overloaded motor and potentially a fire. Best to pull the wiper fuse for safety, while you check out the linkage. ;)

I'm currently working 100 miles from home and don't have any tools with me, but will crack it open and have a look at the weekend. Many thanks for the advice!
