Hi, I need 2 get a new winch as my T-max winch has decided 2 give up the ghost.. So looking 2 buy a new 1 but really dunno wht 2 buy.. Think I know wht ppl r gonna say but I wanna stress that it'll only b there incase of emergencies, it's not gonna b used everyday, properly not even every month, I've been out once a month 4 the last 3 months & only needed it once.. I've only just back in2 land rovers & I ave a disco 300.. So what does every1 think of these, winchmax 13000lb £270, winchmax 13000lb wit 11mm SR £370, superwinch tiger shark 9500lb £300, warrior apache 13000lb £250, t-max 9000lb £300, warn tabor 10000lb £500, champion c12000lb £300, warrior samurai 13000lb £400, winch it 13000lb wit 11mm SR £350.. So all of them can b viewed on ebay.. But I want ppls opinion on any of them above, especially if u use 1 urselfs.. Would appreciate ur thoughts, please bear in mind that it will not get used much & I'm not spending stupid money on a competition winch when it's not needed.. ty

I've just bought the apache 13000 winch, when it turns up I'll let you know my opinion,

From reviews I've read, it seems to be a decent one, but I'm a tad worried it will fail at a crucial moment !

Why not just fix the one you have, especially if you don't use it much?

If you don't want to, what's wrong with it? I might be interested in it.

I hear what ur saying Johnnyb, I've been reading reviews as well & tbh that just confused me even more as there is mixed opinions on them all.. I will say 1 thing tho, yrs ago when I had my last lr, I had the old type of the warrior.. Brought it from winch solutions (eBay name winchsol), I had it 4 3yrs & never had no problems wit it.. Dunno what the new models r like tho..

Hi Paul d, I ave thought bout repairing it but I dunno weather it's worth it bcoz the free wheel lever has come off & is in free wheel mode, so it doesn't work.. But when I did ave it working last wkend, it didn't sound the most healthier of winches.. So dunno wanna spend money on it for it 2 go wrong again, plus I dunno how old it is & how much abuse it's had as got it wit lr..

its in,

Almost as big as my winch bumper's tray for it,

so far my old concern is that it say made in PRC (Peoples Republic of China)

Havent attached the isolator switch for it yet,

but so far it works

No worries, do you fancy selling it? I only want a couple of parts for a project .. so a broken winch is ideal for me, so long as it's cheap enough! ;)

Hi Paul, yes I properly will b selling it once I remove it from my lr, but I don't know when I will get around 2 it as I'm busy work wise @the moment, but I will keep u informed.. Regards

I bought the Warrior Apache 13000lb with a synthetic rope from the electric winch shop in Bradford they retail at £349 but i bought at the spring adventure show a few weeks back for a "special" price of £325.

Fitted it to my Disco 2 which was quite easy to do even for a ham fisted tw@t like me. it came with a wire less remote already wired up and a nice ally hawse fairlead plus an isolator switch which i mounted in the grille. it looks great in the matt black finish and grey synthetic rope.

I used it twice on sunday at Parkwood off road in Tong. once to pull out a stricken vauxhall frontera and once to pull my own 2 ton disco up a hill whist the diff casings gouged a 6inch groove in the mud ! it has plenty of pulling power.

i guess its like anything else in life, you get want you pay for. i wanted something cheap that would get me out of the poop if i needed it. this seems to have done the job although time will tell. i'm hoping that if i look after it well it will look after me. i'll be on here winging if it packs up in no time.

hope this helps:D

hi all. im new to owning a 4x4 and have also recently purchesed a apache 13000 winch to fit my defender 110 td5.
can any one whos got/fitted one give me any advice: the supplied leads seem a bit short which i can extend but do i just go directly back to the battery or run the neg to the chassis? ( will it affect v drop etc if i do that) also should i be fitting a second battery.
sorry for whats probably a daft question but going from a boy racer to a 4x4 is a learning curve.
thanks

neg to chassis is fine..make sure you put a cut off switch on the live feed tho

all winches are good when new, you pay extra for it to last.

it hugely depends on how much time it spends underwater in my experience, and then how often you are prepared to overhaul it

i rebuilt my chinese superwinch numerous times and with some machining on worn away parts i was able to restore its former glory

all the best :)

My Tmax has done 10 years and in that time its had 3 brush sets and got increasingly waterproofed after each strip and clean. Its had some serious abuse felling trees, motors up to the door tops in sludge and abused. It has been cleaned and pulled apart a few times and had a good service probably 5 times in 10 years. Keeping the water out is key to it surviving and decent connections All of them

A place down te street from me has a "badland" 12,000 lb winch for like $250 Usd and its lifetime warranted. I'm not sure if they ship worldwide, but I'd be happy to play the middleman if need be

EDIT:
Apparently they went up. They're $399. But even in £ thats still short money.

I've run this winch before and have no complaints.

Don't you just love it when these foreigners come over here on to our forums, don't learn our language and then criticise our culture?
Shouldn't that be a pre-requisite of joining up? :) :p
