so i got my car stuck in a very boggy ditch the other day, so i go to use the winch (britpart 9000 or something) it was being wound out when it started smoking and then stopped working. i have tried it again and it will not work at all. I was wondering whether this is the solenoid or motor or if you can't tell what it is from this information but i would rather get it fixed than have to buy another one. so any help would be appreciated.

Oli:)

yes yes i know about ****part and am trying to slowly rid the 90 of it but it came on the car already and has helped me out on a few occasions and to be fair its been on the car for about 3 years and 2 of those had no use from the previous owner but i thought if its just a solenoid or something that its worth replacing?

where was it smoking from?

i would say its more than likely the motor burned out.

speak to dave at goodwinch and see if any of his bowmotors will fit the ****part winch

not really from a specific place, i may try to take it off and have a look at it but i imagine that will be harder than i think. i think ****part do the replacement bits anyway but i will probably get a different one. thanks for the help

Were you powering the cable out? Not a good idea any more than absolutely necessary. Or are you saying it burned out while winching?

Winches draw a helluva lot of power and as your battery voltage drops the amps go up until something burns out......usually the insulation on the power feed as it goes through the winch body to the motor

so what does this mean

and the reason i did this was because the free spool isn't great

at £180ish i think i will give the ****part winch motor a miss, i was just surprised as it been perfectly fine before even after longish use and is a pain in the arse not to have one.

You call a 90 a car and ask for help

bloody hell, yes i do refer to my car as a car. do you refer to yours as a light 4x4 utility vehicle all the time? i don't know whether you are being serious or are having a wind up here.

And it looks like i will be on the look out for a new winch but probably something like a super winch but I'm trying to look at the second hand ones.

well thats fair enough and i call mine numerous things especially when it doesn't work:D

i love the:Just chill, life is too short to get all ****y. really?
