Cant help with the selection of the plastic cable but if your old steel is in good nick and you want to sell it on to make back a bit of the cost PM me :)

It will be ok yes.

I bought one of the ropes that winch-it were selling, 11mm x 100ft with competition hook and fairlead, £160.

it has lasted me at least a year and i do use the winch often, it shows signs of wear but looks like it has years left in it, i do wash it out every time it gets to a pay and play though.

i would recommend trying to find one with a comp hook and/or buy a comp hook to go on instead, theyre bigger, better and easier to use.

wiltshire landyman said that he was on a challenge event and snapped one of the cheapo synthetic winch ropes within an hour, if you are looking at heavy use like challenge you probably need marlow or some other kind of plasma.

for what i use it for, which does involve an amount of this:

the cheapo has been absolutely fine.

cheers

i went thru 3 winch ropes off winch-**** there cheap chinese crap

the 1st one snapped and he replaced it the 2nd one he argued for ages but replaced it the 3rd time he refused,i went and bought a genuine marlow rope and it never let me down

i know the cheap ropes seam attractive but the only thing that attracts you is the price not the quality or what its made of

There's your evidence ^^

However, mine has been great for the use it does get. I don't know how bad challenges are for winch ropes so I can't really say whether I think it would last or not!

I'd say if you don't do challenge, you use your winch a fair bit, sometimes in anger and you look after your rope, a winch-**** one will be ok (because that's the same as what I do with it)

:)
