Hi All.

Got a problem that suddenly appeared while going down a country lane on my way home. Most awfully buzzy grinding noise from what sounds like front right side of the engine bay, near the drivers side front wheel.

Particuarly bad under slow menouvour / hard steering lock but present standing still (allthough quiet) in time with the engine tickover. Also seems to get louder in reverse!

Any ideas? Going to take it to my local dealer tomorrow if I can't figure it out.

It drives fine, steering feels fine etc etc. Just this horrific grindy buzzy noise (best way to explain it!)

When on tickover standing still - if I rev the car.. it buz/grinds much louder (almost like something catching type sound) as the revs fall, then goes quieter again!

Sounds like main drive belt to power steering etc is shredding particularly as you say it gets worse on hard lock. D..

Gets worse in reverse too though (strait line) which is odd! :/

If you put it in reverse (even standing still) its horrific where as in 'D' is pretty quiet until you move.

might have displaced one of the covers on the engine. favourite place to look:
put full lock on right, and look in behind the drivers road wheel. there is a black plastic cover which protects all the pulleys and drive belts. Sometimes this get displaced and then rubs on the air con pulley etc.

had it twice on my td4 auto, once caused by green laning, and once just put back wrong when I had the undertray off.

good luck

With noise appearing suddenly could well just be ****e or branches caught up amongst belts etc.... will need to be removed before doing serious damage...

If it wernt doing it whie stationary would say it was ****e stuck in ****e guards round discs
