Hi, I'm looking for some advice please. My freelander has developed a whine which seems to be coming from the front when slowing down but only when the clutch is depressed. The noise is not noticeable when in drive including slowing down without depressing the clutch. Oddly enough, after about 10 minutes of driving when everything is warmed up the whine can bearly be heard but it's definitely there. I've read lots of threads but can't find these symptoms.

Is the IRD on its way out? If so, am I too late to convert to mondo mode and will have to suck up the expense of a replacement IRD?

Is my VCU at fault but do they whine? No other symptoms - I've done the reversing with full lock test.

Spent 2k 6 months ago replacing the VCU bearings, rear diff and both rear bearings. My bank balance has only just recovered so I could do without another expensive job! Grateful for any advice.

if the noise is coming from the front then mondo mode isnt gonna prove anything, its primarily front wheel drive anyway.

Id be checking brakes, bearings, then clutch.
