Hi all, i have a discovery commercial for work and green laning. But I am thinking of getting a range but what is the difference between a p38 and a vogue. What do people recommend? Im looking for around a 01 plate. Is there anything to be wary off?

Hi Jamie,

A 2001 will be a P38 - so you have a choice of 2.5 diesel, or 4.0 or 4.6 V8 petrols. The 2.d and 4.0 come in SE (DSE) and HSE (DHSE) form, the 4.6 only in HSE. Then you have a world of special editions inc the Vogue, Autobiography's (some are barely any better than an HSE, some have extensive specs), etc etc.

Or, go for a Classic which is, err, classically more classy IMO, less complicated, but older too!

These classic men talk sense :D

The P38 is nicer to ride in but the Classic is more fun and simpler. But they do rot. Everywhere.
The Vogue was a special edition initially when the P38 came out but after a couple of years or so I think just became the top model as it was on the Classic. I'm not sure how much difference there was between the HSE and Vogue though. I don't think a vast amount. I have a book somewhere if you need more details.

He's right - the P38 does ride better, guessing it must be the air suspension, but whereas I bought a Classic as a sturdy witner vehicle, my boss has bought a P38! It is a bit smoother, but then I imagine a Classic with air suspension feels very similar. Personally, I'm glad I went with a Classic - I could have afforded a P38 if I wanted one, but I like the Classic shape and have always wanted one of those. Might change it for a 4.6 HSE on LPG in a year or so's time, but for now I'm enjoying it and looking forward to winter!!
