which oil

Looks a bit expensive to me.

I'm using a cheap (£8/5L) 20/50 Oil from Wilkos at moment in my 2.25 petrol, which is basically the same engine.

But I'm doing an oil change at 2000m, and need regular topups, due to (previously worn) valve guides.

My petrol burns oil too so I use a cheap brand. The engines are designed to run on mineral 20/50 or runnier in cold climates.

I think my local branch of Wilkinsons, IIRC, had an even cheaper one than that in a white container.

But the green Wilco/Motorsave one looks fine too!!

Thick oil is what you need for an old Landy 2.25 as new thinner oils will just leak past the seals.

The way I look at it, the modern oils, simply give you extended change intervals, due to the more modern additive packages and ability to stay "in grade".

My landy (and prob many others) only do 1000-2000 miles per year, and get at least a yearly oil change. Most prob get more frequent changes due to the amount of oil they leak/burn!

I was also told it was the factory fit corrosion protection system for the chassis.

That's why Landy's rust when sat still.

Glad I came across this thread, I'm going to change the oil soon on my 2A 2.25 petrol and wasn't sure what to use. Was gonna go for this Halfords stuff but seemed a bit pricey!

Halfords | Halfords Classic Oil 20w50 5L

Tis good stuff this but I noticed they wacked the price up

Did a load of tests on mineral oils at uni and main upshot was cheap oils performed as well as expensive brands up to around 1500 miles and didn't significantly fall behind til around 2500-3000 miles.

Corse it depends alot on your injun......probably best to pour oil over the top of it and it'll find its own way in :D

Oh....and EP90 in the filter
