Once the loan is up on the Suzuki (in about 6 months) I was planning on chopping her and the 2A in for a newer Defender. However someone at work was looking at cars today and pointed out a nice 2001 Rangie 2.5 dhse that was within the £8K budget I was looking at, which got me thinking about what to go for. I am a bit worried that the defender would be a bit basic for an everyday car.

So the question is: If you were spending between £6K-£8K on a Landy for everyday use (approx 6000 miles a year with some motorwaying and light off roading) which one would you get? defender/disco/rangie? (pro's and con's appreciated)

defender or disco for me

a 2001 rr for 8000 while overpriced is also a p38 and 9 times out of 10 will end up costing much much more

i chopped in a nice comfortable car for a defender 90 hardtop as my only form of transport and have'nt regreted 1 second of it go for it

When i bought my Discovery 7 weeks ago i only had maxium 2 grand ,so i got the best vehicle i could for that budget ,had no chance of getting a Defender for that money ,believe me i looked everywhere ,so in your case with 6 to 8 k i would definatley go for a Defender while you have the chance ,and always remember this ,a good defender will last you many more years than a same price Normal car ,so will be good value and once you have got it ,you have it !

For £8k you should be looking at the lower end of the L322 Range Rovers (2002 onwards) rather than the P38 - the L322 is a far superior vehicle. Some of them are starting to drop into your price range now.

Saying that, if I had £8k to spend on a vehicle it would go on a nice TD5 110 CSW :D
