My wee bairn turns 12 next year, and so will be able to start to Nav for me. We've agreed that we'll do some mild Group N type events, possibly some sealed odo stuff.

I'm also planning the MacMillan challenge, and at least two or three other similar type 4x4 events. I'll always be looking to raise money / awareness for either MacMillan or Cancer research.

So, I need a car that will work well for both. The only real criteria I have are:

1. Must be a Landy
2. Cheap as possible.

My thoughts were either a Gaylander 1, or a Disco 1. Would love a rally 90, but I would think fettling costs will knock that one out the park.

I would be grateful for welcome any experience & advice (or offers of free cars :D).

I'd also agree, series 3 swb & V8 at that because you definitely need a V8 for rallying... :D

But then you said cheap as possible. Perhaps stick with a healthy 2.25 petrol.

You can pick them up quite cheaply, they're robust and will take the abuse and are very simple to fix!

Logical choice no?

True.....never thought of that. Lovely fettled V8, roll cage, stickered up, hmmmmmm...me likey:D

Plus with nav's comms units, we'll actually be able to talk to each other on t'motorway...

id be tempted with a gaylander v6 personally

plenty around and cheap enough , also usefull if your doing road sections

don't forget moest series don't have power steering and are noisy as hell

A Freelander? Good god man, whatever next?!

Definitely a Series or Defender!

two words , COST and PRACTICALITY

defenders are expencive
series would take a lot of modifying to be fast and safe

freelander is moderately quick , strong bodyshell , demisters that sometimes work and are cheap

just ignore the embarrisment of the buttplug ariel
