Where to mount Anderson connector?

Have finally got everything I need to wire up an Anderson type jump start connector and to make up some jump leads.

From what the comics say, most people just mount the connector on the battery box under the passenger's legs. I didn't really think this was the best place, as it seems strange to jump start or be jump started from the side of the vehicle, and didn't much like the idea of having it there in the cab in general.

I was thinking about making up a bracket and mounting it in the engine bay somewhere up high at the back, somewhere near the heater box. Fact is, the reason I got my Landy in the first place was for wading. Not serious over the bonnet wading, but where I live does flood to about 2.5 foot from time to time, so I'd like it somewhere it wont get submerged, which pretty much rules out mounting on either bumper.

One of the comics this month shows one mounted on the battery box but pointing upward. It had a comment that if you're stuck in a ditch and flatten the battery, you dont want to rely on being able to open the door to use it, in case you can't.

So that got me thinking to get some opinions on here. What is most practical and why? Should I just go for under the passenger's legs, or somewhere else?

why dont you just put an extra lead on starter and run up wing etc earth can be any suitable part of engine ,lifting eye etc

mines mounted to the wing just in front of the washer bottle.

Its too dark to take a pic now, but can do tomorro if you need it.
Also got a smaller 50amp in the cab behind passengers legs, to plug things like Tmax compressor and Inverter if im camping, all run off of a second battery on split charge so doesnt flatten cranking battery.

Bollix to it flash on camera is pretty good, plus security light.

I've already got the bits now. And I floated the idea with a mate at work about connecting to the starter cable. He did point out that there'll be more voltage drop the longer the cable. And if I'm jumping someone else, its probably better to go straight off the battery.

BearDy89, Would love to see your pics. I do have a split charge in the pipe line. Have pretty much everything ready to wire in apart from the second battery. I did want this jump start point off the main battery though. If I jump someone I'd have the engine running, and if someone jumps me, It should be straight to the starting circuit rather than though the split charge relay (100amp or whatever rating).

if your jump starting vehicle ,you should jump from starter rather than going through flat battery which would take more out than 2ft of lead to starter from wing ,also would or could be used to charge battery from there ,just info even though your sorted

Cheers BearDy89, I'm adding you to my list of people I owe a beer. James is already on that list a number of times.

The relay I have waiting to go in is one I got from x-eng. I just ordered a 'spare' relay from them rather than the whole kit (I can make up the rest of the kit myself). I'm pretty sure it was quoted at some huge amount of amps, but when it turned up it has 100amp stamped on the side, and looks exactly the same as the ones that AutoElectricSupplies sells. Each place seems to rate the same thing differently in terms of ampage, both of which are different to what it has stammped on it. I do wonder whether some are stating the max peak amps and some the continuous amps or some other rating.

what about nounting it on the seat rear tub bulkhead either behind or above the passengers seat backrest

the advantage is youve got the height its inside (not getting wet ) and you only need to open the passengers window if your in a rutt :D:D:D
