Where do I find this shield that is missing in the photo? I received a crazy expensive price from one mechanic.

Thank you for the quick response
The diagram both of you supplied is exactly what I was looking for

I did find the link below before asking the question. I'm still a bit confused why it does not show the middle piece that the link you provided does

Also the $900 quote i received before this post seems to be confirmed
The fabrication shop down the road may be able save me a lot of money

The plastic middle section isn't available separately, because it's not supposed to be removable. It's rivited to the side rails to make a one piece unit. Often lazy owners or so called mechanics remove the rivits to make servicing faster.
Many off roading owner's replace the plastic section with steel or aluminium for greater strength.

Ouch! $900!!!!! I gave one away to a mate last week.
Are there no scrap yards in the area where you could get a used one?

No scrap yards found yet. I will be contacting a Freelander group about 5 hours away in Oklahoma about locating parts. There are Freelanders thru craigslist for under $3000.

My Freelander is for my daughter going off to college, with hopes of taking it to the Rocky Mountains some day.

When I was younger I had a lot of fun in my Jeep CJ7, The Freelander seems very capable. So when the local mechanic express disdain for repair cost of the Freelander. I think of the cost of the Freelander plus the cost of future repair / maintenance compared to $13,000 comparable Jeep Wrangler, plus maintenance the Freelander is a very long ways from regret.

In addition, I'm not the smartest fella but when I open the nested links provide I see cost of 1275 euros, isn't the euro stronger than the dollar? So $900 crazy as it may be...
Thank you
Sincerely
Mike

That link showed the part priced at $295 not $900 - am I missing something?

Having said that, if the US is anything like NZ - it will be a lot cheaper to but most parts in the UK and get them shipped over. I recently bought some mounts for the engine - the parts were £56, shipping was £41 (which sounds silly for £56 parts) - and the bill on my visa card was $170 - to buy the parts here was going to cost over $250. I ordered the parts on Monday, and the courier was knocking on my door with them on Thursday!

The undertray is bulky - so isn't a good thing to get shipped. Hopefully you can find one in the USA. However, you may find a breaker that will ship you a 2nd hand one and it still be a lot cheaper than you can source in the USA. It is worth checking if the parts are very expensive locally.

response;
I try to my research and not rely on one source:
The link shows $295 without the middle shield. A local import mechanic quoted me $900 after he looked it up.
Next I'm going to ask the local fabrication shop.

Thank you for the info, I plan on doing research into a "breaker".

I'm going to have to read up on how to change oil filter, it sure looks like the shield would have to come off?

It is part of the pain of being a Freelander owner! Being on your back whilst trying to balance a 3ft square piece of metal and plastic on your elbows, feet and knees whilst lining up and getting bolts into each corner. Such fun.
