Wheel bearings?! P38 99S DHSE

Hello - should have asked this on the last post but......

I can hear a slight knocking from the front passenger side wheel at speeds over 70mph, not sure if it is the bearings, but as it has done 138k I am guessing it could be! IS there a way of just replacing the bearings? If not, how much am I likely to be in for?!?

are you sure its the wheel bearings? is the steering wheel juddering?
(poss wheel balancing prob).
what happens if you touch the brakes? does the noise dissappear?

yes you can change just the bearings if you wish.

Balancing is fine and steering wheel is fine - not sure under braking, will give it a go later!

Any idea on the cost of bearings?!

about 95 quid each. you need special tools to do it.
maybe better to get a quote from a landy specialist.

Good news and Bad news!
Good news - you can get the bearings for £60 ish each from Paddocks.
Bad news - tools required: a bloody big press, a hot spanner, special home made steel plates 3/4inch thick to hold the hubs (it still bent the plates!), torque wrench(bearings need to be torqued to 260nM, NB. no more than this or you will fcuk them!), lots of patience.

I did all 4 and it took me a good day to press them all out and put the new ones in.
Get yourself a Disco, £12 each corner and no special tools!

I am guessing it would be cheaper to get a salvaged hub and get that fitted then. I am a DIY'er but re-trimming the interior and fitting the PSI box is my limit!!
