What's this please?

Whilst under the Freelander (06 TD4) I noticed some corrosion under the 'box' that is the opposite side of the propshaft to the fuel tank as shown on page 1B.5 of Haynes - but it does not say what this 'box' is. It has a sort of quilted effect that looks a bit like a heat cover above the exhaust.

Its the box that holds the heated rollers.

I think you mean the fuel tank cradle. If its rusty and starting to rot do your best to clean it up and re paint it with hammerite. If it gets to bad it's an MOT failure.

Or it could be the underside of the security box which is in the floor of the boot.
