hey peeps, im thinking of looking into getting a land rover freelander,
most likely it will be the freelander 1 although im tempted to get the freelander 2,
anyways i was wondering what to look out for when getting a land rover freelander?

any tips would be much appreciated

I bought a fl1 and I like it but I do wish I had shelled out a few hundred more and got a fl2. Also, I bought the 2 door, big mistake. My freelander is low mileage though and finding a low miler fl2 for what I could afford was difficult. When looking don't forget to check the tyres and vcu and stay away from green cos the lacquer peels off.

get the f2, said to be more reliable. I have a 2010 f2, love it, just coming up to a year's ownership. only problem (touch wood) was a weeping oil seal on rear right hand drive shaft.

im trying to determine if its worth spending the extra amount for the freelander 2

what you got diesel or petrol?

They're both good. I bought my FL1 to get me to a wind farm in winter and it never missed a beat. Changed it after putting 20 k on it in a year, for a FL2 HSE and the refinement is beyond comparison.
Don't be put off by high miles, just make sure it has had regular oil changes and been looked after.
FL1 was sold with 199.5k, for £100 less than I paid for it and I would happily have another one.

1.8l petrol. Local 4x4 indie is scared of it cos he thinks the engine is crap but it seems pretty good. Does about 30 mpg no matter how I drive it. They are intolerant to overheating though so I need to keep my eye on coolant level.

Probably the least attractive model - mines a 1.8S three-door in green.

And it’s GREAT!!!
