ok chaps, changed the fuel filter, opened the bleed screw thingy, and pumped the lever on the lift pump, no fuel appeared and no resistance after 20 plus pumps, new lift pump on the way, gonna change that, then im gonna have to try and get the sedimeter off, i failed at the first attempt, mind you i was p155ed off, so gonna try with a clear mind.

Sometimes the lift pump sits on the camshaft, such that you cannot pump it-turn engine over a bit and try again before condemning it-did you fill the filter with derv before you put it on?

the saga continues chaps, i have changed the fuel filter, and the lift pump (not with ****part one) and bled the system. I cannot get the sedimeter off, 11mm spanner too big, 10mm too small.
it will fire up and tick over ok, when given a few revs and held steady, after about 5 seconds revs go down and eventually stalls, even tho the pedal is in same position.
any suggestions please, i need to get it going.
thanx gary

A friend of mine had this problem with his diesel Cherokee which he'd left standing for two years. Ran for 30 secs and then stopped. It was caused by the age of the diesel and having a bacterial growth in it. New filter and fresh fuel and right as rain. Do you know if yours had been sitting on the forecourt for ages?

hi, i have checked all lines, the tank end has been previously repaired, i think i have found success, i went out and bled the system again, this time leaving it to idle for at least 15 mins then took it out round the block, approx 6 miles and then down my dirt track 3/4 mile, no probs. now gonna let it cool overnight whilst i have a good few :beer2: then try again doing the same thing from cold.
thank you for all your replies they were very much appreciated,
wish me luck for morning, :biggrin1:

bad news chaps, symptoms reappeared today, much cursing and head scratching later, noticed a fuel leak, turns out that a spill off pipe had split which was not noticable before, found a bit of plastic water pipe to bodge up, in true land rover fashion, and orderd new pipe from fleabay.
should be finalised now,
thanks again
